Pictures of Angel Falls and Canaima

January 18th through 21st, 2001

These pages are under construction - please be patient!

Peggy and I had planned for a long time to visit Canaima and Angel Falls while I was living in Venezuela.  Angel Falls holds a very special place in my family history.  In April 1949 my father, Perry Lowrey, became the first person to measure the height of the Falls when he joined an expedition to the Falls for that express purpose.  The expedition was featured in the National Geographic edition of November 1949.  In addition to this bit of history, my family visited Canaima and Angel Falls twice during our stay in Venezuela - once in 1967 and a second time in 1970.

Peg and I finally arranged our trip just prior to my leaving Venezuela at the end of January 2001.  Fortunately, my sister Carolyn was able to come down from the States and join us.  It was absolutely unforgettable, in a word.

These images are just a start.  We took hundreds of pictures, some digital, some prints.  I will endeavor to select some of the best and post them here a few at a time.

These images are low-resolution versions of the originals.  I did this to make it easier for visitors to download the pictures.  Hopefully the quality is reasonable.  If you have any feedback, or would like to see a higher resolution version of any of these pictures, please send me a note at john_p_lowrey@yahoo.com, or post a note on the Guestbook.

Thanks for visiting and enjoy.  John
